Have you been invited to a Student Support Team meeting, or have a child who has been referred for a special education evaluation? Join us to learn more about the Student Support Team and special education processes, from Student Support Team meetings and special education referrals through identification and delivery of special education services, and the important role families play in this process. This session will address:

    • The role of the family in the special education process

Wearing a helmet is encouraged if you are new or it has been some time since you last skated. This event will also feature a DJ for your enjoyment.   • Teens and adults with disabilities are invited to join one of our clubs. We have a teen club (12-17) and an adult club (18+). The membership fee is $54.??Each club meets twice a month, with the first Friday being a social gathering. At the first monthly meeting, participants will help decide what you will do at their next monthly gathering. This 12-week hybrid course will teach you what behavior really is, and how to change it. Created by Robyn Gobbel and based on the best selling book by the same name, Raising Kids with Big, Baffling Behaviors: A Course for Parents. You’ll become equipped with interventions, tools, and techniques that actually work! And in this no-shame, no blame approach to parenting, you’ll finally understand why knowing is only half the battle. The course is strategically designed so you don’t just learn a bunch of parenting tools and techniques. By the end, you’ll actually be able to do the powerful techniques you’ll learn.??Starting September 21st, course participants will access weekly pre-recorded modules released each Saturday. Youth Peer Support Groups

?is designed for teens and young adults age 14-22 who have lived experiences in one or more service systems such as:

  • Social services
  • Special education
  • Mental health services
  • Substance use treatment & recovery

Facilitated by a professional clinician, Stronger Together will meet weekly, Tuesday evenings, October 1 through November 19 in Fairfax city. The group introduces tools that can be used to navigate everyday challenges, and emphasizes positive peer supports as a context for strengths-based growth. A light dinner will be served each evening. Regular weekly attendance is expected. The group is offered free of charge; ?is required.

When to Worry About Your Worrier – A Roadmap for Recognizing and Supporting Children and Adolescents Struggling with Anxiety
Oct 9, 2024: 6:30 PM in Eastern Time (US and Canada)

Dr. Young will review the clinical criteria for a variety of anxiety and related disorders, identify ways in which symptoms might manifest at different ages, and highlight effective prevention and intervention strategies that parents and teachers might use to support their children and adolescents. This is difficult for all parents/caregivers, especially parents of children with disabilities. Life can be unpredictable, and coping with stress and burnout can become overwhelming. It’s a challenging balancing act to remain centered and at peace, not in pieces. This interactive workshop is designed to help parents of children with disabilities view self-care through a new lens. This workshop offers tangible strategies to help you overcome the challenges that hinder you from balancing life and reclaiming yourself through self-care and wellness. Participating in this workshop, you’ll learn how to prioritize self-care and make it an integral part of your daily routine. With the right tools and techniques, you can achieve a sense of balance, peace, and well-being that can positively impact yourself and your family.
